Khun Ploy is a Bangkok woman whose path swerved from science into the spa business. She graduated with a Bachelor of Marine Science and worked as a sales representative in Bangkok, but she dreamed of living and running her own business abroad — so she moved to Sydney to study Business Management. While travelling through Thailand and Australia she experienced luxurious destination spas in many five-star hotels, and those experiences, together with her ambition to be a business owner, inspired her to open a spa of her own. When she finally settled in Adelaide, her partner's hometown, she launched a Thai day spa in 2011 with the idea of bringing a premium Thai day-spa retreat close to home for Adelaide locals. From that first shop she gradually grew to several locations. She reflects that surviving in the spa business in a city that isn't your birthplace takes both authentic Thai massage skill and a clear concept — not just opening another ordinary massage shop.
