นักเรียนไทยหลายคนในออสเตรเลียเจอปัญหาคล้ายกัน: แชร์เฮาส์อัดคนจนแน่น สัญญาเช่าเป็นแค่คำพูด และพอย้ายออก เจ้าของบ้านก็ยึดเงินมัดจำ (bond) ไม่คืนโดยเรียกร้องอะไรไม่ได้เพราะไม่มีหลักฐานเป็นลายลักษณ์อักษร นักกฎหมายจาก Redfern Legal Centre ยืนยันในรายการว่านักเรียนต่างชาติได้รับการคุ้มครองทางกฎหมายเท่าพลเมืองออสเตรเลียทุกประการ กรณีในรัฐ NSW ยื่นเรื่องเรียกคืน bond ได้ที่ศาลปกครอง NCAT — ส่วนใน South Australia หน่วยงานที่ทำหน้าที่เดียวกันคือ SACAT

Rentals packed 'tighter than canned sardines' and a bond never returned — the rights Thai students don't know
Many Thai students in Australia run into similar problems: sharehouses crammed full of people, tenancy agreements that are only verbal, and when they move out, the landlord withholds the bond (deposit) and won't return it, with nothing they can demand because there's no written evidence. A lawyer from the Redfern Legal Centre confirmed on the program that international students receive exactly the same legal protection as Australian citizens in every respect. In the state of NSW, you can file to recover a bond at the NCAT administrative tribunal — while in South Australia the body that performs the same function is SACAT. Takeaway: Always make your tenancy agreement in writing and register the bond properly through the system — in SA, if your bond is unfairly withheld, you can file with SACAT. Our rights are equal to Australians' in every way.
