Khun Nan, a board member of the Thai-Australian Association of South Australia (TAASA), shared on the SBS Thai program that the Thai community in SA is clearly growing, with more and more Thais choosing to settle here instead of the big cities for straightforward reasons: the cost of living is cheaper than Sydney and Melbourne, jobs are still not hard to find, educational institutions are world-class, and there's a pathway from student to PR. The size of the community was reflected in the 2024 Thai Festival at Torrensville, which was expected to draw over 9,000 attendees, with around 30 stalls, plus activities including fruit carving, a som tam pounding contest, and Muay Thai.
