การปรับตัวเข้ากับที่ทำงานใหม่ Port Augusta Hospital เมื่อ ปลายปี 2024 - ใช้ภาษาอังกฤษในที่ทำงานไม่คล่อง เพราะเคยเป็นพยาบาลแค่ในไทย ใช้ภาษาไทยในการสื่อสารมาตลอด แล้วต้องมาเปลี่ยนบริบทเป็นภาษาอังกฤษทั้งหมด เลยมีบางของการส่งเวรแล้วไม่เข้าใจที่พยาบาลคนก่อนพูด เค้าเหมือนเช็คเราว่า “do you know what is cow milk?” ตอนนั้นเราก็งงๆ และตอบ no ไป เพื่อนอีกคนเลยหันมาบอกเราว่า full cream milk ก็เลยเข้าใจ
ก็นู้สึกนิดนึงว่ามีความ racist อยู่บ้าง เพราะเราไม่ใช่ english speaker แต่นอกจากนั้นเพื่อนร่วมงานส่วนใหญ่ดีนะคะ มีแค่คนส่วนน้อย 5-10% ที่เป็นแบบนี้

อะไรไม่รู้ก็ถามให้เคลียร์มากขึ้น แต่เคสนี้เป็นเคสเด็ก เราเลยไม่สนใจเพราะเคสนี้เป็นของ RN ไม่ใช่ midwife (ward ส่งเวรรวมกัน) อาจจจะไป search เอง ถ้าเป็นสิ่งที่ถาม google ได้ ทุกครั้งที่ส่งเวรก็เรียนรู้ศัพท์มากขึ้น

Adjusting to a new workplace, Port Augusta Hospital, in late 2024 — my English at work wasn't fluent, because I had only been a nurse in Thailand, where I always communicated in Thai, and now I had to switch to an all-English context. So there were times during handover when I didn't understand what the previous nurse was saying. She seemed to be testing me, asking "do you know what is cow milk?" At the time I was confused and answered 'no,' so another colleague turned to me and said it meant full cream milk, and then I understood. I did feel there was a bit of racism, because I'm not an English speaker. But apart from that, most of my colleagues are nice — only a small minority, 5–10%, are like this.
Takeaway: Whatever you don't know, ask about it to make things clearer. You might search it yourself if it's something you can google. Every handover, I learn more vocabulary.
